Fraser Shipyards Briefs Rep. David Obey, D.-Wis.

Feb. 16, 2010 – Fraser Shipyards Inc. President and COO Jim Korthals today briefed Rep. David Obey, D.-Wis., on how the shipyard will use the $2 million the congressman secured for the City of Superior to assist with the shipyard’s continued upgrades and repairs to its facilities. The company will initiate the work as soon as funding is disbursed, ultimately employing an additional 15 to 20 skilled workers throughout the project.

New Leadership Named at Fraser Shipyards (Duluth News Tribune)

Fraser Shipyards Inc. in Superior announced the following:

James Korthals was hired as president and chief operating officer. Korthals has 25 years of experience in managing the operations and production of large manufacturing facilities and mining companies. He previously was president and chief executive officer at Cutler Magner Co. in Duluth and is a past chairman of Cutler Magner’s board.

Gene Walroos, formerly Fraser’s shipyard superintendent, was promoted to shipyard general manager. Walroos joined the company in 2003 and has nearly 30 years of experience in the marine industry. His experience includes overseeing maintenance and repair operations for both deep-sea and inland-waters ships. He is a former school director at the American Maritime Officers’ School of Engineering and Navigation in Toledo, Ohio.

Kevin Jones was hired as director of operations of Northern Engineering Co., a division of Fraser. Jones previously was employed at Cutler Magner as plant manager of the company’s lime manufacturing facility in Duluth. He has 19 years of experience from a number of lime and cement manufacturing plants in the country.
